How Your Surgery Is Done

  • The Gastric Sleeve procedure is done laparoscopically (often known as “keyhole surgery”).

  • You will be asleep and under general anaesthesia during the surgery.

  • 5 small incisions (cuts) will be made on your upper abdomen.

  • A camera will be inserted, and the abdominal cavity will be filled with gas.

  • The attachments of the stomach to other organs are divided and the stomach is stapled off and removed through the slightly larger right side incision.

  • All the incisions are closed with absorbable stitches, covered with waterproof dressings.

  • Before the surgery, the average stomach is able to hold 4-6 cups. After surgery it will only hold ½ to 1 ½ cups.
